Cherokee Trails, by Pharos Games, is a challenging adventure game that's also very educational. The story is based on the "Trail of Tears" which was the 900 mile forced march by the Cherokee Nation to a reservation in Oklahoma. I found this game to be extremely well-done. Not only is it based on excellent historical research, but it's just a lot of fun to play. You start out in a flea market, where you meet an old Cherokee woman. Ahhh, but from there you go on to a magical, mystery tour that will keep you fascinated. And busy. There are places to visit, people to meet, and many things to do.
From the flea market, you're magically transported back in time and you have an amazing journey ahead of you. And I hope you shopped wisely when you were at the flea market, because you'll be able to trade with some of the characters you'll meet along the trail. You encounter spirits from the past who will share their stories with you. Fascinating stories of the Cherokee people. They can also trade with you to give you things you need. Along the way, members of your party will get sick -- frost bite, poison ivy, pneumonia, and more. And how well you do in the game depends on how healthy your party stays. As you travel from town to town, you'll need to get some supplies from stores, and other things through trading. At the same time, you'll also have to go fishing in order to have a good supply of fresh food. Within the game you can check the inventory of all the things you have to help you through your journey.
Cherokee Trails by Pharos Games, is quite simply a beautiful piece of work. Over a year in the making, Cherokee Trails is filled with wonderful scenery, characters, animation, sounds, and music. It was obvious to me that a lot of love and care went into the creation of this fine educational adventure game. The characters you meet have fascinating tales to share. The places you go and the challenges you face, will keep you coming back, again and again. The more you play the smarter you'll be about what things you'll need on the trail. The full game is very large, so this demo is just a small sampling to get you acquainted. Over the years, I've looked at a lot of games of every different type. To my mind, Cherokee Trails is one of the very best educational games I've ever encountered. You owe it to yourself, and your children, to take a very good look at this program. And get the full version -- you won't be disappointed. I give Cherokee Trails my highest recommendation.
NetCaptor, by Stilesoft,Inc., is a really powerful Web browser with a difference. What's the difference? It uses tabs so you can have multiple pages loaded at one time. The tabs make a huge difference because you can move from one site to another, without ever really leaving it. It's as easy as moving from one tab to another. Very slick. Another very cool feature is the ability to create what are called "CaptorGroups". So, for example, say you find yourself visiting the same group of sites all the time to get news. ABC, CBS, FOX, and CNN. Well, you can make a CaptorGroup that contains all of those sites. Then, when you want news, you can just load that CaptorGroup! And tab from site to site with ease.
NetCaptor's CaptorGroups give you the ability to group like sites together, load all of them quickly, and view each of them on their own tab! That makes for easy viewing and I find that very handy! At the same time, the program is loaded with lots of other features that make it a joy to use. One feature that I find very handy is the ability to block popup ads and banner ads. What a timesaver! And NetCaptor does it automatically. You can also launch your email program, newsgroup reader, AOL, and more, right from NetCaptor. Organize your favorites, organize your CaptorGroups, change your security settings, and lots more right from within the program. You can also click an option that lets you quickly email a Web page you're on to a friend!! Very cool!
NetCaptor, by Stilesoft, Inc., is a really powerful Web browser that's loaded with lots of extras. The ability to load Web pages on tabs gives you a lot of flexibility. The ability to load them in groups is just downright useful! And beyond that, NetCaptor gives you a level of control that you won't find in other browsers. The way it blocks popup ads and banners is in itself worth the price of admission. It has advanced security options, a host of address-related tools, and lots, lots, more. So, if you're looking for a Web browser that gives you more power and flexibility, you need to take a look at NetCaptor! Very nicely done!
Dweep Gold, by Dexterity Software, is an extremely fascinating puzzle game, but it's really so much more. I love things that pose a challenge, and this game does that and does it well. You think a game named Dweep isn't challenging? Think again! Now, how to describe it for you. Um, first of all you have a character that's affectionately called "Dweep". Hence, the name of the game. Dweep is kind of like a purple Ms. PacMan with a bad hair day. No arms, two legs, and googlie eyes like Cookie Monster. And, Dweep's babies are trapped and need saving. The playing field is colorful and artistic, and also seriously hostile.
Dweep Gold is one challenge after another. For example, the first level has lasers and Dweep has to navigate around them. There are some mirrors to help deflect the lasers, but only so many. And you'd better be careful how you place the lasers or Dweep gets charbroiled. And there are new challenges on every level. Heat plates, bombs, more lasers, and lots more. I thought I was good at puzzles, but this game had me putting on my thinking cap, and I like that. The key is figuring out how to use the few tools you get to help navigate around the obstacles. You get mirrors, fans, wrenches, hammers, torches, and other things to help you out. Oh, and while you're playing you get to hear music as well as cool sound effects. Very nice!
Dweep Gold, by Dexterity Software, is a colorful, challenging game that will keep you fascinated for hours on end. If you like puzzles, this is one game that will keep you on your toes! As far as I'm concerned it's a great game for kids of all ages! The full version even has a level editor so you can create your own clever levels and share them with others. So, if you're looking for a great game, that's full of challenges while being non-violent, this is it! So, give it a try - I recommend it!
