I do a lot of file transfers and many of them are downloads. I've been downloading files for 20 years and I can tell you that there isn't much worse online than being nearly done with a file transfer and having it abort! There are several programs that can deal with this problem, but the one I like best is GetRight, by Headlight Software. Whether you do a lot of downloads, or just a few, in my opinion everyone should use a product like GetRight. It lets you resume aborted file transfers from most servers and it's a program I wouldn't want to be without! If a transfer aborts for any reason, GetRight allows you to start up where you left off, and not have to start at the beginning. With program files getting bigger and bigger, that's a huge help. GetRight is loaded with options, including the ability to schedule downloads. That means you can schedule them for off-peak hours when rates are cheaper, and when you don't have to watch every download. The program has many powerful features an
d is easy to configure. So, if you download, and most of you do, be like me. Try GetRight and make your life a little easier! A favorite of mine.
For searching the Internet and World Wide Web, try Copernic 2001, by Copernic Technologies. Copernic really gets the job done -- it's quick and efficient. It will search for words or phrases, and you can tell it to look for an exact match. This makes it much easier to search for very specific items. You can do a quick search or you can expand your search to get maximum coverage. Copernic 2001 does a tremendous job of indexing your searches, as well as removing duplicates. In addition, Copernic 2001 keeps a history of your searches, allowing you to go back to them. Very nicely done ... I wouldn't be without it! And, this version is FREE!
If you want a tool for organizing, viewing, and managing your graphics images, take a look at Firehand Ember Ultra by Firehand Technologies Corporation. Because you can view thumbnails of numerous images at one time, you can easily rename, delete, or move your graphics images. The programs handles many graphics file formats, including JPG, GIF, BMP, TIF, TGA, PCX, WMF, and more! If you want to work with a particular image you can just double-click on it to enlarge it. Firehand Ember Ultra lets you alter images and then save them in the format of your choice. Because you can view mulitple directories (folders) of graphics at one time, you can get a better feel for all the images you have on your system. Zoom in, zoom out, and even drag an image into email client to share it with someone else. Very slick! Once of the best products of its kind that I've looked at!

Well, once again that's all for this week. Right now I'm at the annual Shareware Industry Conference, but I'll be back on Sunday. And, starting next week I'll start reviewing some of the winners of the Shareware Industry Awards and the SIAF People's Choice Awards!
