Zip Express, by Insight Software Solutions Inc., is a slick program for looking up Zip Codes, area codes, and lots more. This is one program that's part of my personal "toolkit" and I use it all the time! For example, a call comes in when I'm not home, but the number is left on my Caller ID. I don't recognize the area code, say 310. I enter it into Zip Express and find that it's from the Los Angeles area. I also see a list of possible Zip Codes, the local time, and all of the cities around Los Angeles that have that area code. Very slick. And you can do searches in a variety of ways. Using just the Zip Code, the state, the county, or just the city name. Enter a city name and you'll get every city in the United States with that name, along with the current time, the area code, and the county it's in. Excellent!
Zip Express, however, goes way beyond just being able to look up mystery area or zip codes. That's right, because the real power lies in using the information you find. You can copy it to the Windows clipboard, or print it. Better yet, you can copy it to the clipboard and paste it into an application. And, you can determine how that information will look in your application. You decide if it says "Detroit MI 48230" or "Detroit, Michigan 48230." The program comes with pre-defined "output formats" that you can use when you copy to the clipboard. Or, if you like you can also create your own. You have over 80 hot keys you can define as keyboard shortcuts within the program. Another cool feature is that you can determine exactly what information is displayed. So, if for example, you really don't care about the local time you can configure the program not to show that. You can also configure things like showing all city names in capital letters, showing long state names in all capital letters, and mor
e. Lots of flexibility here.
Zip Express, by Insight Software Solutions, Inc., is a powerful little utility that's loaded with information. It's great for finding out Zip and Area codes, or even the county a city is in, but it's so much more. It's really handy for snagging this data and utilizing it in your applications. The program is highly configurable and extremely easy-to-use. With over 80 hot keys, user-selectable preferences, and pre-defined output formats, it's ready-to-go! Over the years I've looked at lots of programs for dealing with Zip Codes, and this is the best I've found. That's why it's a part of my desktop. Check it out!
Thanksgiving Recipes, by Rhode Island Soft Systems, is one of those programs that I just had to write about. Why? Because I love to cook. I've been the cook at our house for 26 years. And besides, we're coming up on Thanksgiving, right? This screen saver is really just beautifully done as are all the products from Rhode Island Soft Systems. To begin with the pictures alone will make your stomach growl. And it shows you pictures of foods from all the different "courses" you might want to serve. That includes breads, soups, meats, and lots more. Some of the recipes are what you'd call "traditional", but many of them aren't. Each screen not only shows you a picture of the food, but the recipe for making it. Pretty slick.
Thanksgiving Recipes also plays some very relaxing background music while the pictures are displayed. It'll make you hungry just watching this beautifully done screen saver. In the full version, which is only $14.95, you get 25 recipes. And, in the full version, you can view each recipe and even print out a recipe card. Very nice!
Thanksgiving Recipes, by Rhode Island Soft Systems (RISS), is a seasonal screen saver that's beautifully done. No other way to put it. And, it's the latest in a long line of quality screen savers from RISS. So, if you like to cook, or know someone who does, check it out!
System Mechanic, by iolo Technologies LLC., is a powerhouse utility that'll keep your computer running smooth. It has a lot of features, and I'll try to talk about as many as I can. I've looked at a lot of similar products, and this one really impressed me. For example, I've used a number of programs that clean the "junk" files off your computer. In fact, I've used a few not that long ago. So, I ran System Mechanic and calmly selected the option "Clean Junk and Obsolete Files". And to my utter shock, the program found 585 MEGABYTES of junk. I was incredulous -- this couldn't be right. So, I looked through the entire list and it was right. So, just that quickly System Mechanic saved me half a gigabyte of disk space. Very cool! And it has lots of other tools to help keep your computer neat, tidy, and working the way you want.
System Mechanic has fifteen (15) different "tools" or options you can choose from. And these are things that nearly all of us need at some point. Like "Find and fix broken shortcuts", or "Find and remove duplicate files". These tasks help keep things running the way you want. At the same time, the program can clean up your Windows Registry or let you customize many of the settings in Windows. Another feature that's really in demand is helping to protect your privacy. That's right, System Mechanic can do that too. You can have it delete, or manage, the infamous "cookies", erase your Web history, delete the Internet Explorer cache, and it can even delete your recent documents history. And there's lots more. A very slick feature is the ability to schedule the maintenance you want done on a routine basis! Have System Mechanic routinely get rid of junk files, broken shortcuts -- whatever you want! Excellent!
System Mechanic, by iolo Technologies, LLC., is a powerful program that has an impressive list of features. Too many to even cover here. It can maximize your Internet connection, monitor the installation of programs, securely delete files and folders, and lots more. As I said, I've looked at a lot of programs with similar functions. And for my money, System Mechanic is one of the best programs I've looked at in a long time! This is one program you owe it to yourself to try!
