Welcome! I'm glad you're here. I hope everyone had a very happy and safe Thanksgiving Day. I know I did. And now you've got about 20 shopping days till Christmas! Anyway, I'm glad you stopped by for a look at my Picks for this week. I've been downloading and trying lots of programs and I think I've got a really good bunch to tell you about. These are some of the best programs available on the Internet. So, kick your shoes off, and lets take a look!

  • Smart Address 2000
  • Version: 4.5
  • System Requirements: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP
  • Get more info.
  • Download Smart Address 2000 NOW!
  • To see a screenshot of Smart Address 2000, click here!

Smart Address 2000, by Oakley Data Services, is a powerful "personal information manager", or PIM, that's very easy-to-use. I find the interface to be easy-to-understand and quite intuitive. And that makes it perfect for both new and experienced users. It's also one of the few PIMs I've found that can actually be used as a client/server application. That means you can share the information it contains across your network and that's a handy feature to have. All your information can be stored in the database and that database can be shared all across your network. Very slick. At the same time, Smart Address 2000 can also be run in "standalone" mode on a single computer. Either way it's a powerful application for managing your contacts, your calendar, and much more.

Smart Address 2000 is much more than just an 'address book'. Yes, you can keep all the information you need about all of your contacts, but you can do so much more! For example, maintain a task list so you can keep all of your tasks on schedule. You can give each task a "priority" and you can also track the percentage of completion. Create tasks that recur on a regular basis or just one-time events. Smart Address 2000 also has a handy "Note Book" area where you can keep a detailed journal on all your activities. And, you can also put your notes into "groups". Very handy! The programs calendar lets move around easily while also giving you the ability to add events and tasks on-the-fly. But there's so much more! Easily link to documents, track faxes, phone calls, emails, letters, and more! Smart Address 2000 lets you create envelopes or mailing labels as well as very useful reports. Beautifully done!

Smart Address 2000, by Oakley Data Services, is a full-featured information manager. It has everything you need to deal with contacts, your schedule, your tasks, and lots more. It even has a section that will give you various times around the world, and you can decide which cities! Import contacts, create letters with a handy wizard, and much more. It's ideal for businesses, but it's also perfect for personal use. So, if you're looking for a program to help manage things, look no further. Smart Address 2000 is an excellent information manager. Give it a try - I recommend it!

  • System Workshop
  • Version: 2.3
  • System Requirements: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP
  • Get more info.
  • Download System Workshop NOW!
  • To see a screenshot of System Workshop, click here!

System Workshop, by Elrise Software, is a full-featured maintenance program for Windows. It does a beautiful job of taking care of the things that keep your computer running at peak efficiency. The program is divided up in easy-to-understand sections. These include the "Disk Cleaner", "Menu Editor", "Startup Manager", "Program Cleaner", and "Icon Manager." There's also a "Customizer" section, but I'll get to that later. The Disk Cleaner portion helps you to remove all of those unwanted and unnecessary files that accumulate on your computer. The program lets you pick what drives you want cleaned and what kinds of files to look for. And, when you're done, you can elect to ZIP up the files or delete them. The "Menu Editor" lets you customize the right-click menus in Explorer. And that lets you have it exactly the way you want! Very slick.

System Workshop also has a very nice Startup Manager that lets you deal with all your startup applications. This provides a really handy way to disable certain items if you wish, or even to add new ones. Using the Startup Manager you can customize the list of programs that automatically start when you start Windows. You may even find some programs that you didn't even know about! There's also a nifty Program Cleaner that lets you go through the "Add/Remove Programs" section of Control Panel and remove any defunct entries. You can also find information about programs that may have been installed before you got your computer. And lastly, System Workshop has a Icon Manager that makes it easy for you to change the default Windows icons. And, to make it even better, the program comes with some icons you can use. Very cool!

System Workshop by Elrise Software, has an interface that's nicely done and easy to use. Each individual segment is in its own section, so there's no confusion. I found it to be very easy-to-use and something that would be beneficial to all levels of users. It provides a variety of handy functions from cleaning out junk files to juggling your Windows icons. And if all this weren't enough, it also has an entire section devoted to customizing the Windows interface. Fiddle with the overall appearance, functionality, the way Internet Explorer works, and more. Nicely done. So, if you're looking for a way to make your computer run more efficiently and behave more the way you want, take a really good look at System Workshop! Well worth the download time.

  • Total Commander
  • Version: 5.50
  • System Requirements: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP
  • Get more info.
  • Download Total Commander NOW!
  • To see a screenshot of Total Commander, click here!

Total Commander, by C. Ghisler & Co., is what I would call a "file manager." I have never been overly fond of the file managers that came with the operating system. And I'm not just talking Windows, I'm going all the way back to DOS! Color me different, but I've always used an alternative file manager. And Total Commander is a great one! And it's been around for years! I suppose I should mention that it was formerly known as Windows Commander or WinCmd. Look at the screen capture to get a better feel for it. The main screen is divided into left and right halves. And you can work with different drives, or directories, on each side. The program has a really powerful search function so it makes it easy to find any file you might be looking for. And, this search function can even look inside compressed files, like ZIP files. Very slick!

Speaking of compressed files, Total Commander can work with just about every compression type available, including LHA, ARJ, TAR, ACE, RAR, ZIP, and others. On another note, I particularly like the configurable toolbar as a place for launching programs. Nicely done. Total Commander also comes with a file viewer that's built right in. Yes, there's a lot of power under this hood! And you'll find the viewer can show you all of the most common files including graphics, text, and more. Total Commander works with local drive and network drive and it will even treat FTP connections as if they were local drives. And speaking of drive, the program also supports a history listing and bookmarks and that makes it easier to get around. Very nicely done.

Total Commander, by C. Ghisler & Co., is a file manager that has all of the most important thing a file manager should have. Support for multiple panes, different drives, FTP connections, the ability to view files, work with compressed files and more. And, on top of all that, it's also very configurable. You decided exactly how the program is going to work in a number of areas. So, if you'd like a file manager that has a little more get up and go, take a really good look at Total Commander. I think you'll be glad you did.

That's it for this week. I hope you enjoy looking at these Picks as much as I did. Give them a good workout and I think you'll be impressed. And remember to check back next week for more Picks. I'll be back then with more great programs to tell you about. Until then, be careful if you go out shopping, be safe when you 'surf', and happy downloading!
