ClipMate, by Thornsoft Development, gives almost unlimited power and functionality to the Windows clipboard. It turns your ordinary Windows clipboard into a powerful clip-handling tool. You can create collections of clips that you can use over and over again. Create "safe" collections that you can't delete from without prompting. This is one program that I've personally used for years and wouldn't be without. Every computer I have has a copy of ClipMate on it. Even my children grew up knowing how to use ClipMate, and that's a fact! Each time you "copy" or "cut" something new, the program 'remembers' and saves that clip. Copy text, copy graphics, copy from Word, copy from Excel, it doesn't matter. ClipMate, by Thornsoft Development, is a really powerful tool that you'll end up using on a daily basis. And this new version is the most impressive yet. It has so many features I don't have room to list them. It provides a great way to work with all
the things you cut, copy, and paste each day. Give yourself a present for the holidays, and try ClipMate. This is one of my all-time favorites!
Zip Express, by Insight Software Solutions, Inc., is the best program I've found for dealing with zip codes, area codes, city names, and much more. As I said when I made it one of my "Picks", this program is a part of my personal "toolkit" and I use it all the time! To look up area codes, find time zones, find what county someone is in, and all kinds of related information. I don't know how many times I've run into my office at night and fired up Zip Express because my wife saw an area code and said, "Where is that at?" But Zip Express goes way beyond just finding the information and provides you with great ways to use it! Copy the information you find to the clipboard and then paste it into an application. And, you decide exactly how you want that information to look. The program comes with pre-defined output formats and you can also create your own. You get over 80 hot keys that can be defined as shortcuts. Zip Express, by In
sight Software Solutions, Inc., is a powerful little utility that's loaded with information. It's great for finding the information you need, but it's also great for using that information. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Over the years I've looked at lots of programs for dealing with zip codes, and this is the very best I've found. It could be one of your favorites too. Give it a try!
File-Ex, by Cottonwood Software, is another of my all-time personal favorites. The program adds a tremendous amount of functionality to the "File Open" and "Save-As" dialogues in Microsoft Windows. It gives you the ability to indicate what are your favorite files and folders. And think what good sense that makes. Most people have directories and folders that they use frequently. And now you can define those so that they're quick and easy to access. No more navigating through drives and directories to find what you want. File-Ex makes it easy! Just a couple of mouse-clicks and you're there! It also keeps track of all of the files and folders that you've used recently. And it keeps different lists for each application. These things make you more productive and much more efficient. Another thing that I really like about File-Ex is that it gives you the ability to do file management. Right on the spot you can search for files. Delete a file or a
group of files. Create a new folder or remove an old one. Rename or copy files on-the-fly. This kind of convenience makes File-Ex indispensable. It's one more program that's a constant part of my desktop. Give it a try and it may become a part of yours! Excellent!
System Mechanic, by iolo Technologies, LLC., comes with an impressive fifteen (15) different "tools" you can pick from. And the tools it offers will make your computer run better. Options to find and fix broken shortcuts, delete useless files, find and remove duplicate files, and lots more. The program can clean up your Windows Registry or let you customize many of the settings in Windows. Another feature that's really in demand is helping to protect your privacy. That's right, System Mechanic can do that too. You can have it delete, or manage "cookies", erase your Web history, delete the Internet Explorer cache, and it can even delete your recent documents history. And there's lots more. A very slick feature is the ability to schedule the maintenance you want done on a routine basis! Have System Mechanic routinely get rid of junk files, broken shortcuts or whatever things you want done. One very unique feature is that System Mechanic can mon
itor program as they're installed. It can also securely delete files so they can't be recovered. I've looked at a lot of similar programs and System Mechanic is about the best I've found. Check it out!
FolderMatch, by Salty Brine Software, is another one of my "Favorites". And if you try it out, it may quickly become one of yours. The program is powerful, but at the same time it's easy-to-use. And it gives you a variety of options to help keep files and folders really synchronized. You can keep your desktop and laptop in perfect sync, or multiple computers on a network. I use it daily to keep specific folders on multiple machines right in sync with each other. And the program can compare files in a variety of ways. The simplest way is to look at the file size and date, but there are also advanced methods that I won't go into right now. Suffice it to say that FolderMatch is more than a match for any synchronization task! So, if you have more than one computer, whether they're desktops or laptops, or both, you can easily keep them synchronized. FolderMatch, by Salty Brine Software, is powerful, efficient, and easy-to-use. This is another gre
at program that's become a part of my personal software toolbox and I use it every single day. So, take the time to give it a try and I think it'll quickly become a favorite of yours as well.
Registry First Aid, by Rose City Software, is a great tool for keeping your Windows "Registry" lean and mean. In the process of just installing and uninstalling software, the Registry gets gummed up. Lets face it, some programs just don't do a good job of cleaning up after themselves. And all the excess junk that they leave behind in your system Registry slows things down. Registry First Aid solves that problem by finding all the leftover junk and letting you remove it! And remove it safely! First, the program scans the registry and looks for entries that point to things that are no longer there. It also looks for orphan folders and files and can remove these as well. You might be amazed at the amount of useless stuff that's cluttering up the Registry. Not to worry. Registry First Aid works fast. Then, when it finishes a scan it clearly displays everything it found. You can tell the program to eliminate everything OR select just specif
ic things. The program also creates an "undo" file so if you wanted to you could restore the registry. Registry First Aid, by Rose City Software, is a really handy utility that will help keep your registry clean and efficient. It's both safe and easy-to-use. I use it about once a week just to keep all the junk out of my registry. Give it a try and I think you'll like it too!
