Hi there! And as always, welcome back. We're quickly moving towards the end of February and some of you out East have gotten a lot of snow! We haven't gotten a lot of snow here in Colorado, but we keep hoping. I've been keeping really busy looking at lots and lots of software. And, I have some great "Picks" for you to read about! I hope you'll enjoy them. So, if you're ready, sit back, relax, and lets take a look!

  • Dewqs' No More Spam
  • Version: 1.011
  • System Requirements: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP
  • Get more info.
  • Download Dewqs' No More Spam NOW!
  • To see a screenshot of Dewqs No More Spam, click here!

Dewqs' No More Spam, by Dewq's Tribes, is a brand new product that's designed to rid your life of "SPAM" -- the common term for all that unwanted email I'm sure you get. Emails with get rich schemes, offers for herbal Viagra, cheap car insurance, you name it. Well, Dewq's NMS is designed to help eliminate the vast majority of the junk mail that's been cluttering your "inbox". It uses a heuristic engine that contains over 6,000 expressions and words. At the same time, the program allows you to make your own rules both quickly and easily. You can ban domains, individual senders, and even particular words or phrases. The program functions to quickly sort out all of the mail that is authorized and all of the mail that isn't. And, it places them in an Inbox and Outbox, so you can see at a glance what's what! Dewq's NMS can monitor 25 different email accounts. Very slick!

Dewq's No More Spam will even "unsubscribe" from sites sending you mail automatically. Or, if you prefer, you can have NMS "bounce" SPAM back to the sender. What this does is cause the spammer to remove your email address from their list! Another feature I really like is the fact that the program keeps a log files of its activities. There are two logs for emails that have been deleted in XLS and CSV formats. At the same time the program also maintains a "quarantine" folder and provides you with an EML format log that you can print. Very cool. Another thing I like is that it has a great deal of flexibility. For example, two levels of protection. There are also four different levels for bouncing, and this gives you a range of control. Excellent! And if that weren't enough, it has a feature called "Travellite" that deletes large emails. It then sends a message to the sender asking them to send that 10 megabyte file to you again when you're not on a laptop connected at 9600 baud!

Dewq's No More Spam, by Dewq's Tribes, is a powerful tool for dealing with one of the biggest problems on the Internet -- SPAM! It lets you monitor 25 email accounts, gives you two levels of protection, printable logs, a quarantine folder, and three different levels of surveillance. And, when you're on the road, it has a "Travellite" to help get your email done fast! So, if you're looking for something to help deal with the junk email, take a really good look at Dewq's NMS. It's one of the most fascinating and intriguing programs I've seen in quite awhile! Try it!

  • Opera
  • Version: 7.01
  • System Requirements: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP
  • Get more info.
  • Download Opera NOW!
  • To see a screenshot of Opera, click here!

Opera, by Opera Software ASA, is what some people might call an "alternative" Web browser. That is to say, that it's an alternative to Internet Explorer and Netscape. It claims to be "super-fast" and from using it, I'd have to say they were right! And not only that, but it looks good. In case you haven't noticed, I'm a big fan of flexibility. I always have been, way back to the beginning. I've always felt that users should be able to configure options of a program to suit themselves. And that the program should be flexible enough to allow that. Well, Opera is the embodiment of that idea. It let me layout the Web browser like I wanted to! And what a joy that was. I'm so tired of (ahem) other people deciding how I should use their software on my computer! So, Opera was immediately on my "good side."

Opera is highly configurable. It can use the increasingly popular "skins", so if you want a new look for awhile, it's easy to do. And there's a regular skin collection on the Opera home page. The program has a cool feature called the "Wand" that will remember your logins to Web sites, or not, whatever you decide. If you like have more than one window open at the same time, no problem. Want your toolbar on the left side? That's fine too. Opera also comes with a complete email system that you can use right from the browser. You can maneuver using "mouse gestures" which I find very cool. It can keep track of your personal information, for filling in forms. And, at the same time, it also provides you with a way to delete personal information, like the browsers "history." There's just so much you can do. In fact, Opera is really so very flexible and configurable that I don't even have room to tell you about all the things you can do with it. But, I do realize that I'm going to have to buy this program!

Opera by Opera Software ASA, is really all the authors claim about it, and a whole lot more. It's fast and I mean really fast. It's flexible in a way I've never seen a Web browser be before. It utilizes skins so you can change the look, and it gives you just countless configurable options. At the same time, it abides by all of "standards". It takes up an amazing small amount of disk space and that makes it perfect for your laptop too. There are even versions of Opera for you phone or PDA. After twenty years of evaluating software, I don't tend to get impressed very easily, but Opera is certainly impressive. So, not only is it a Dr. File Finder's Pick, it's also a Dr. File Finder Favorite! I've used lots of other 'alternative' browsers, but this is a Web browser that YOU need to try. If you're going to surf the Web, surf it while riding the best, and this is it!

  • Offline Explorer Pro
  • Version: 2.7
  • System Requirements: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP
  • Get more info.
  • Download Offline Explorer Pro NOW!
  • To see a screenshot of Offline Explorer Pro, click here!

Offline Explorer Pro, by MetaProducts Corporation, is a handy tool for downloading all of your favorite Web sites. And when I say Web sites, I don't just mean HTML pages. This baby can handle downloading MMS, FTP, HTTPS, and RTSP pages too! And it's perfect for "grabbing" things that you want to browse later. Or save for later. And, if you wish you can also edit the pages you save. And what really impressed me is that you can do up to 500 sites at one time!!! Very slick. And it's impressive just how fast Offline Explorer Pro is. I feel the user interface is quite intuitive and very easy-to-use, which makes it perfect for both new and experienced users.

Offline Explorer Pro gives you lots of options and lots of power to get the job done. You can have URL macros, a specific download directory, and even a display of the files awaiting download. And you also have the flexibility to exclude, or include, specific files, folders, and servers. You can do this strictly through the use of keywords! And the program handles anything that you throw at it because it supports all of the most common and popular "standards." It supports, for example, Macromedia Flash, cascading style sheets, Adobe Acrobat, XML, table of contents, RealMedia, and lots more. And that means that when go to browse Web pages you've downloaded, you get to see it all! Very nicely done!

Offline Explorer Pro, by MetaProducts Corporation, is a perfect tool for downloading Web pages for later use. The interface is user-friendly and intuitive. And it provides support for a dazzling array of standards currently in use on the Internet. The program is extremely fast, and gives you a range of configurable options. So, if you've been looking for a way to download Web pages so you can look at them later, this may be just what you've been looking for. I've looked at a number of similar programs, and this is the best I've seen. Take a good look for yourself! I recommend it!

That brings us to a close for this week. I hope you enjoyed reading about these excellent programs as much as I enjoyed writing about them. All of them are first-rate and you should take the time to give them a try for yourself! While I believe that software is always a matter of personal taste, really good programs appeal to most everyone! I'll be back again next week with some more "Picks" just for you. Until then, have a great week, a wonderful weekend, and happy downloading!
