Reviews of Excellent Software

Hi There and Welcome Back! I'm glad you dropped by. And if this is your first time to visit, I hope you'll return again and again. The weather here in Colorado has gone from a record-setting blizzard to the mid-70's. So we've had a lot of snow melting. I've been inside during this beautiful weather looking at lots of software. I've found some really excellent programs to tell you about. So, if you're ready, sit back and lets take a look!!

  • Files Search Assistant
  • Version: 1.2
  • System Requirements: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP
  • Get more info.
  • Download Files Search Assistant NOW!

Files Search Assistant, by AKS-Labs, is a powerful program for searching through all the files on your computer when you're looking for text. One of the And when I say it's powerful, I'm not exaggerating. This program can not only search through regular files, like TXT files, but it can also search through proprietary file types like Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, Acrobat PDF files, and more! You can also make your searches very specific and search on things like file size, search inside of ZIP files, and even search across your network. Very slick! One feature that I like, which is shown in the screen capture, is that the program can show you part of a file its found with your search word highlighted in bold. That makes it easy to find exactly what you're looking for.

Files Search Assistant can search through multiple levels of directories (folders) and it's very fast. Another feature I really like is that you can define specific folders, or groups of folders, where you might want to do searches on a regular basis. So, for example, I set up my "Picks" directory so I could search it quickly with just a few mouse clicks. You can also create file "masks" where you can define specific types of files to search. So, if you just want to search text files and Word documents, you can define a mask to accomplish that. And if all that weren't enough, Files Search Assistant can also generate helpful reports on all your searches and you can print them! Excellent!

Files Search Assistant, by AKS-Labs, is a powerful search utility that's perfect for anyone who needs to search through lots of files and find specific text. The program is extremely fast and can search multiple directories and even across a network. You can generate reports, search through ZIP files, and create your own file masks. And, unlike many similar programs, it has support for a variety of file formats like DOC, XLS, PDF, and others. So, if you're looking for a program that will find what you're looking for in a hurry, this could be it! Take a good long look at Files Search Assistant -- I recommend it!

Hx - In the early days of computers we also had the need to search for text, but we didn't have a fancy program like you just read about. What we had was called grep. A word from Star Trek? No, actually it's a word that was derived from the phrase "Grab Regular ExPression. What grep did was search through file to find a match for the "regular expression" you typed in. If you were lucky, it would find it and display it for you. Some grep programs would also print the results of the searches. Grep was very popular in the early days of DOS, and in the Unix world. -- Doc

  • FaxMail Network
  • Version: c9.52.01
  • System Requirements: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP
  • Get more info.
  • Download FaxMail Network NOW!

FaxMail Network, by ElectraSoft, is a really excellent program for dealing with faxes right from your computer. The company likes the slogan "If you can print, you can fax!" and they're absolutely right! That's one of the things that's so cool about FaxMail Network. One really excellent feature is the "Print To Fax" option. What this does is let you generate a fax from just about anything that you can print. And I do mean anything! That includes regular documents, photos, text, graphics, and more. And you'll be amazed at just how fast it can create a fax! Impressive.

FaxMail Network can be a real lifesaver if you're running a network. First of all, just designate any workstation as your fax "server." And it doesn't have to be a dedicated machine -- just has to have a modem with fax capability. From that point on, any computer on your network running the program can send faxes through that server. What's really cool about this feature is that it all runs quietly in the background. No noticeable difference on your 'server' machine! Very nicely done. Doing faxes has never been easier and you control the entire process right from your Windows desktop.

FaxMail Network, by ElectraSoft, has stood the test of time. I believe I first saw it around 1990, and it's just gotten better since then. The program has an intuitive interface and is extremely easy-to-use. It allows you to create a fax from just about any kind of material -- documents, graphics, text, and more. It's a powerhouse that works great on a network and gives you the ability to send a fax from any computer! Many other fax programs have come and gone, but FaxMail Network is still standing. So, for all these reasons, FaxMail Network is not only a "Pick", but a Dr. File Finder Favorite! So, if you're looking for an easy way to deal with faxes, this is the program you need to look at. One of my all-time favorites and I recommend it highly. Try it!

  • Just Tabs
  • Version: 3.01
  • System Requirements: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/
  • Get more info.
  • Download Just Tabs NOW!
  • To see a screenshot of Just Tabs, click here!

Just Tabs, by Lincoln Beach Software, is a really slick product for spicing up your Web pages. I've mentioned before that I'm in the "graphically challenged" category, and even I can use Just Tabs and do a great job! The program makes it easy to create a "tabbed" interface for your Web site. And that tabbed interface makes it a lot easier to move around. I really liked the fact that Just Tabs let me decide how my tabs would look. You can pick out the shape you want and select the color. You can even select which font you'd like to use. Very slick!

Just Tabs makes it extremely easy to insert your new, tabbed interface into the HTML documents you already have. The program guides you through the process so there's no need to cut and paste the HTML code. I used it on my own Web site and it was a snap. And I find that the tabbed interface makes it easier for visitors to get around. Another feature that I like is that you have the option to make your tabs either horizontal or vertical! Makes it easy to give your Web pages a new look in a flash. Cool!

Just Tabs, by Lincoln Beach Software, is a nifty tool that does a specific task and does it well! The interface is intuitive and that makes it great for both new and experienced users. It gives you lots of configurable options so your tabbed interface can be just the way you want it to be. Pick the font, the shape, the color, and lots more. Heck, you can even pick which direction your tabs run in! So, to make your Web pages easier to navigate, you owe it to yourself to take a good look at Just Tabs. You won't find anything that's easier to use. Give it a try -- I recommend it!

That's about all we have time for this week. I hope you enjoyed reading about these Picks as much as I enjoyed writing about them. All of them are excellent products and I hope you'll take the time to give them a try. And remember, if you try a shareware program and find yourself using it, be sure to pay for it. In this way the shareware concept works for all of us! I'm off to go look at more programs, but I'll be back next week with more Picks to share with you. Until then, have a great week, a wonderful weekend, and happy downloading!
