Greetings and Welcome Back!
I'm glad you stopped by to take a look at my Picks for this week. My week has been a little less hectic and I've taken a look at lots of really good programs. Speaking of good programs, don't forget to participate in the SIAF People's Choice Awards voting. Take the time to vote for the software programs that you like best! With that said, lets get back to the Picks. So, if you're ready, relax, sit back, and lets take a look!

  • Ultra Cleaner
  • Version: 1.0
  • System Requirements: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP
  • Get more info.
  • Download Ultra Cleaner NOW!

Ultra Cleaner, by SpeedBin Software, is a nifty utility for cleaning the "junk" off your hard disk. Useless files do accumulate on your computer and if you don't clean them out, the performance of your computer suffers. I was helping a friend who is a computer novice with their computer. And in looking around their system, much to my shock I found nearly 1 Gigabyte of useless files taking up space on their hard disk. That's when a tool like this one comes in handy.

Ultra Cleaner is designed to track down all of the junk and useless files on your computer, and eliminate them. The interface is intuitive and easy-to-use. And that makes the program perfect for both new and experienced users. The program also features context-sensitive online help, so the answers to your questions are never more than just a few mouse clicks away. The program will analyze your hard disk and shows you which files you can safely delete. Ultra Cleaner can also clean out things like your Internet cache files, the infamous "cookies", and even your Recycle Bin. And, if you like, you can use it to eliminate your Web browser "history". Very slick.

Ultra Cleaner, by SpeedBin Software, is a neat utility for cleaning all of the junk off your computer. From useless Internet files to old temporary files, it gets them all. And, if that weren't enough you can also use it to clean up your Recent Document list, the "Run" history, and more! So, if you've been looking for program for cleaning up your hard disk, this might be just what you're looking for. Give it a try for yourself!

  • AscToHTM
  • Version: 4.0
  • System Requirements: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP
  • Get more info.
  • Download AscToHTM NOW!
  • To see a screenshot of AscToHTM, click here!

AscToHTM, by JafSoft Limited, is an extremely powerful tool for converting ASCII text files into HTML files. For those of you who aren't sure, HTML - HyperText Markup Language - is the language that's used to create Web pages. AscToHTM goes over your ASCII text files and can add hyperlinks to email addresses, Web page URLs (Universal Resource Locators), and even newsgroups. One thing I like about the program is that is has a lot of configurable options. And that makes the program truly flexible. Very nicely done!

AscToHTM can also check your text files for any text that's emphasized or for things like bullets. At the same time, it easily recognizes indentations and headings. That makes the program flexible enough to create a nicely formatted HTML page. And on top of all this, it can also add things like JavaScript to your pages. Or colors! Even such things as headers, footers, and titles. What really blew me away is that the program can even detect "tables" in your text file and can then create an HTML table from it. Really very slick. The program is easy-to-use and has an intuitive user interface. Nicely done.

AscToHTM, by JafSoft Limited, is a handy tool for anyone who'd like to convert plain ASCII text files into HTML pages. The program is fast and it's loaded with configurable options. It handles tables, bullets, indentations, headers, footers, and lots more. It can create hyperlinks to Web pages, email addresses, and newsgroups. So, if you'd like to take your ASCII text files and change them in HTML documents, this is the program you need. Quick, powerful, and easy-to-use. Give it a try, I recommend it!

  • LinkStash
  • Version: 1.6
  • System Requirements: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP
  • Get more info.
  • Download LinkStash NOW!
  • To see a screenshot of LinkStash, click here!

LinkStash, by Rose City Software, is a neat program for managing all of your Internet favorites or "bookmarks." I found the program to be very easy-to-use and quite intuitive. That makes it perfect for both new and experienced users. And what a great way to keep track of all those bookmarks. Another cool feature is that LinkStash can be used with Netscape, Internet Explorer, Opera, NetCaptor, and Mozilla. That makes it flexible. Another very cool feature is that the program has a powerful search function. I was quite impressed with how quickly the program could find links I was searching for. Very nice. And, if you want, the program will add its buttons to the Internet Explorer toolbar so it's always right there and ready to use. Heck, you can even set it up so the program opens when your browser does! Neat.

LinkStash makes it very easy to add new links. You can just drag a link from your browser and drop it. Or you can use a hot key, or a button on your Internet Explorer toolbar -- whatever works best for you. I really like how flexible the program is. Another neat feature is that you can use the program to store your passwords. Yep, that's right and all your passwords are encrypted to keep them safe. A really handy bonus feature. And, if you like you can also customize the toolbar buttons so they're arranged the way you want. Nothing I like better than a program that gives you lots and lots of options. And LinkStash really does.

LinkStash, by Rose City Software, is a powerful program that manages your bookmarks, your passwords, and more. It's extremely easy to use, works with all of the most popular Web browsers and has lots of configurable options. The program lets you use it the way you want to, and I like that. So, if you're looking for a program to manage all of those Internet bookmarks, take a really good look at LinkStash. It's one of the best programs of its kind that I've seen. Give it a try for yourself and see what you think. I think you'll like it!

Hx - Back in the early days, before the Internet, we didn't really have "bookmarks", but we did have our "favorites." In every communication program there was a dialing directory. And in there you kept a listing of all of the bulletin boards you liked to frequent. It may seem hard to believe now, but at one point there were tens of thousands of bulletin board systems in the United States alone! And I personally visited thousands of them and had multiple dialing directories. In fact, my lists of bulletin boards were used in several computer books. And, in 1990, I was offered $5,000 if I'd sell my dialing directories -- I didn't. Things have changed, but even back in the days when bulletin boards were THE place to be, people had their favorites. It must seem odd to users today that if you wanted to visit 20 bulletin boards you had to call 20 different places. Today, you can go all over the world on the Internet with just one connection. My, how times have changed. -- -- Doc

Once again we've run out of time and space for this week. I certainly hope you enjoyed reading about these excellent software products. I know that I enjoyed writing about them. Once again, don't forget to cast your vote for the software programs you like best. I'm off to go look at some more great software, but I'll be back next week to tell you about some of the best ones I find. In the meantime, have a great week, a wonderful weekend, and happy downloading!
