askSam, by askSam Systems, won the SIAF People's Choice Awards in the "Best Business Application or Utility" category. This powerful, freeform database can handle data from a variety of sources. It can pull in data from text files, email documents, HTML, Rich Text Format (RTF), Microsoft Word, Excel, and more! And, because it's a freeform database, you can enter data without following any particular format. The features make askSam extremely easy-to-use, and that makes it perfect for both new and experienced users. Really very slick.
askSam also has extremely powerful search functions. That's great because it helps you to find the data you've entered both quickly and efficiently. You can search in a variety of ways including wildcard searches (*.*) when you aren't exactly sure what you're looking for, and Boolean searches where you can use operators like NOT, OR, & AND. That means you get what you're looking for in a flash. So, if you're looking for a something to store all kinds of varied information, this is what you're looking for. Powerful search functions, the ability to import a wide range of document types, and lots more. No wonder people like you voted for it! And the rest of you need to try it out for yourself. Excellent!
IrfanView, by Irfan Skiljan, won the SIAF People's Choice Award in the "Best Graphics Program or Utility" category. This award-winning program is the one of my personal favorites and it's easy to see why so many users voted for it. If you do anything with graphics images you need to check it out for yourself. For one, it can handle a huge number of file formats, including GIF, JPG, BMP, PCX, TIF, AVI, and lots more. You can use it to put on a slideshow of your graphics images, view animated GIF files, and multi-page TIFF files. You can preview files, resize them, sharpen the image, rotate them, and more. All my screen captures are resized using IrfanView.
IrfanView is loaded with features and gives you lots of configurable options. For one, it gives you all kinds of special effects that you can use with your graphics. This includes things like blur, explosion, emboss, and many more. It can do batch conversions of graphics files, extract icons from DLL files, and has support for drag and drop. I even have it in my "Send To" menu so I can send graphics right to it, and you can do the same. There are just so many features that I simply don't have space to list them all. My advice is to try it out for yourself so you'll see what I mean. This program is a real powerhouse and if you're a home user, it's also absolutely FREE! So, give it a try!
NoteTab Pro, by Fookes Software, won the SIAF People's Choice Award in the "Best Web Enhancement or Utility" category and this isn't the first time. I believe NoteTab has won more SIAF People's Choice Awards and Shareware Industry Awards than any other program. And, if you use it, it's easy to see why it's a favorite among users and computer professionals. The program is extremely easy-to-use and very intuitive. And it's simply loaded with features and functions. The interface is intuitive, so both new and experienced users will find it useful. I know I do. All the text I write is written in this excellent program, including these Picks.
NoteTab Pro gives you all the tools you need to do a great job. It can load large files, do HTML code, spell check what you write, gives you a thesaurus to find new words, and more. You can create bookmarks, change cases, create powerful "clips", and its "tabbed" interface lets you have multiple documents open at one time. Right now I have 10 open and they are all accessible with just a mouse click. And, on top of all that, it has a powerful search function so you can find things, replace text, and more. So, if you are looking for a powerful text and HTML editor, this is the best you're going to find! And don't just take my word for it -- it's the choice of software developers and users alike! Well done!
Second Copy, by Centered Systems, won the SIAF People's Choice Award in the "Best Overall Utility" category. Believe it or not, this is the fourth time in a row that it's won in this category. For the People's Choice Awards, that's a record! With Second Copy you can do automatic backups to a variety of devices. Backup to a network drive, another hard drive, or a "Zip Disk". You can create profiles, or backup sets, that contain all the information for doing a backup. And doing backups are important, trust me. Don't wait to find out the hard way just how important they are. With this nifty program it's easy to create a "second copy" of your really important files. The program actually 'watches' the files you select and notices when there have been changes. When it does, it springs into action and updates everything in the backup location you've selected. Very cool!
Second Copy has an intuitive user interface and that makes it easy-to-use. That also makes it perfect for users with all levels of experience. It has a neat feature that lets you keep multiple copies of the same file. So, for example, say you're working on a proposal for work. You can have a copy that proposes Option A, and another copy that proposes Option B. All the other text can be the same, but Second Copy is helping you to keep different versions of files with the same name. Very handy. So, if you're looking for a program that will make it easy to keep your important data backed up, look no further! With four SIAF People's Choice Awards wins in a row, Second Copy has become the people's choice and the "big boy" of backup utilities. Give it a try for yourself and see what I mean!

Doctor File Finder's Pick Archive
Michael E. Callahan, known around the world by the trademarked name "Dr. File Finder", is regarded as the world's leading expert on shareware. Dr. File Finder works with software programs and developers full-time, and in the average year he evaluates 10,000 programs. Since 1982 he has evaluated over 190,000 software and hardware products. He is an active member of the shareware community and a co-founder of the Shareware Industry Awards Foundation. Mr. Callahan is an honorary member of the Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP), the President of the Educational Software Cooperative (ESC), and the chairman of the Shareware Industry Awards Foundation (SIAF). Dr. File Finder™ is also a recipient of the 1993 Shareware Industry Award for lifetime achievement and has been inducted into the ASP Hall of Fame. Mr. Callahan began evaluating software online in 1982 and no one has been at it longer. He currently works doing online PR and marketing for software companies.
