Sygate Personal Firewall, by Sygate Technologies, is a free program that provides a level of security for your computer. With all of the recent "worm" attacks there's even more emphasis on security, for both home and business computers. You have to understand that a "firewall" can help protect your computer, but it isn't a cure for everything. This free, personal firewall will help protect your computer from attacks by worms, trojans, and more. The user interface is very easy-to-use and that makes it perfect for both new and experienced users. The windows that pop up are clear and easy-to-read. All-in-all, a program that's very well done.
Sygate Personal Firewall, gives you the power to allow certain things on your computer to access the Internet. Like your e-mail program, your Web browser, an instant message program, and the like. It will also block things that try to access your computer. Each time something is blocked, a small window will pop up to inform you. The program also keeps excellent logs of all the activity including a traffic log, security log, and more. You can, for example, look in the traffic log and find an item that was "blocked." Then, have the program back trace that entry, finding out where the item that was blocked came from. You might be surprised to see that it was something from another computer on your network, or a program running on your own computer. But, at least you'll know!
Sygate Personal Firewall by Sygate Technologies, provides a powerful way to protect your computer and it's provided for free. It monitors what goes out and what comes in. It can tell you when someone is scanning your computer, keeps multiple logs of activity on your machine, shows you that activity in graphical form, and much more. And the program is very easy-to-use. For many average users, this is all the firewall protection you'll want, or need. For others, who want more features and more functions, I suggest you look at the Sygate Personal Firewall Pro! But, if you're looking for a basic means of protection from malicious code, give this baby a try. I think you'll like!
Business Card Designer Plus, by CAM Development, is a very cool program for creating professional-looking business cards. The interface is intuitive and easy-to-use and I think it's perfect for all user, regardless of their level of experience. The program is powerful, yet very flexible, helping you to get exactly the results you want. It's loaded with features and functions and gives you all kinds of ways to customize your business cards. For one, it provides support for all kinds of business card paper. And I don't just mean stock from big companies like Avery. You can even define custom sizes! Very slick.
Business Card Designer Plus gives you lots of tools so you can insert your own graphics logo, put in text effects, insert different shapes, heck, even put in a barcode! One feature that I think is really cool is that it lets you do special things with text -- like put it in an arc! Very neat. You can also put in shadows, select fonts, colors, and lots more. Another cool feature is that the program comes with a wide range of templates to get you started. It also comes with a nice selection of backgrounds and clipart. Hey, and if you want, it even supports bringing in new images with your scanner! Slick with a capital "S". Even a "graphically challenged" person like myself can do a great job with this program. And it doesn't take long either. And, you can save the personal information of multiple people -- so you can make cards for yourself, your assistant, as many people as you want.
Business Card Designer Plus, by CAM Development, can print out your business cards on any printer that works with Windows. It's a full-featured program that comes with everything you need to really do a professional job. Lots of options and you know I like programs that give you lots of options. It comes with background and clipart, lets you do fancy text effects, use your own graphics, and much more. I like this program so much, that not only is it a "Pick", but it's also a Dr. File Finder Favorite. And those are few and far between. So, if you're in the market for a business card, you owe it to yourself to give this program a try. I recommend it highly -- well done!
Search and Recover, by iolo technologies, LLC. is an entire set of handy tools all in one, neat package. What does it do? Well, for one, it helps you to find, and recover, files that have been deleted on your computer. You can have the program scan entire hard drives looking for files that have been deleted. And I'm talking all kinds of files -- email, Web pages, graphics format files, music files, and lots more. And what's really cool is that it works with any kind of media, and I mean any kind. This includes hard disks, ZIP disks, floppy disk, and even compact flash disks that you use with cameras. Very slick!
Search and Recover can wipe out as easily as it can recover. That's right -- if you have files that you want to make sure no one can recover, Search and Recover can do the job. Once it's done with a file nothing can retrieve it. Slick. And speaking of "slick" another really neat feature is the ability to create drive "images." Many experts feel that disk images are the absolute best way to backup a computer. What it does is make an exact 'image' of everything on your computer. You can make images of hard disks, but you can also make them of things like DVD-ROMs and CD-ROMs. And when you need it, you simply "mount" the image and you have everything back exactly as it was. Just the drive image function is worth the cost of admission. Very nicely done.
Search and Recover by iolo technologies, LLC is a powerful program that has multiple functions. You can use it to search for and find files that have been destroyed or deleted. The program works with all kinds of media, from hard drives to compact flash disks. At the same time, you can also use the program to "wipe" files from your hard disk. Files that you've wiped can't be recovered and that keeps your personal information, personal! And, if all that weren't enough, the program can also create and mount "drive images", which is a perfect way to backup, and restore, a disk. Excellent. So, if you're looking for a program to restore deleted files, wipe personal files, and backup your computer, this is it! Very impressive -- I recommend it.
