Description by Publisher
This package is a fully-functional emulator of the classic Radio Shack
TRS-80 Model I Microcomputer System introduced in 1977. It emulates a
48K TRS-80 Model I with 4 single-sided, single-density disk drives,
RS-232 option board (mapped to COM1 or COM2), and a printer (mapped to
LPT1). Any MS-DOS-based PC is suitable for use with the emulator as long
as it supports at least CGA graphics.
As single-density Model I disks are not readable by modern PCs, Model I
disk images are instead stored as files on your PC's hard drive in the
form of 'virtual disks'. Both instructions and software are included for
connecting a TRS-80 to your PC, allowing you to transfer disks to the
PC's hard drive via either a null-modem cable or a simple custom-built
parallel cable. (Instructions for constructing the parallel cable are
included.) As the ROM code in the TRS-80 Model I is copyrighted
material, it cannot be distributed with the emulator. However, the
emulator documentation also describes how legitimate owners of TRS-80s
can transfer the ROM to their PC, using the same method used to transfer
disk images.
This latest upgrade offers three new features: a speed control, the ability
to write protect virtual disks, and a filter to correct linefeeds on
printer output. Also, as of this release, version 3.02u, the package is
now Freeware. The registration option is no longer available.
Special requirements: 16MHz 286 is recommended for reasonable performance.
