Description by Publisher
Budget & Investment is a program designed to stimulate the students'
thinking skills by presenting them with a real life situation. They are
given the task of making their money stretch to cover everyday expenses
while still having enough to invest wisely in the stock market. The
program assigns each student (up to 38 can be in the registry at any one
time) a salary, deducts federal tax, state tax, and social security.
What money is left is paid at the beginning of each session (one session
is considered a week by the program.) Each student is given $1,000 at
the start to help them buy stock right away.
Using their salary, the student must pay bills such as grocery, car
repairs, entertainment, etc each week. Every four weeks they must pay
rent and utilities also. Insurance must be paid every twelve weeks. If
there is any money left, the students may visit the stock broker to buy
or sell stock. They may view stock performance in table and chart format
before making their decisions. Planning is important because only one
buy/sell visit to the broker is allowed in each session. Also, negative
bank balances are not allowed - just as in life - so if a student cannot
pay their bills, they must sell stock. A program session cannot be
completed while there are bills waiting to be paid.
The registered version covers 26 weeks and includes reproducible sheets
to be used by the student to track and chart their balances, stocks, and
so forth. The Shareware version is a demonstration only and will not go
beyond the third week.
