May 07, 2005 03:02:27 by D_Spider Half the time, Msconfig 'forgets' that you unchecked a process you don't want running. Starter doesn't forget, doesn't send bothersome '?' or '!' messages; it simply controls which processes run at system startup. It easily banishes (and can easily reinstate) the processes that you're supposed to access from 'tray icons' (90% are a waste of resources). It does this with a clear, uncluttered, helpful interface. It's the best freeware (and better than most shareware) startup controller I've been able to find. Thanks, CodeStuff! |

Most of the people I speak with, will inquire about a program that is starting that they can't stop, or how their system is bogged down. Majority don't know how to edit the registry and get that look or tone of "sure pal, I think I'll put up with the annoying program". So when a friend e-mailed me and asked about yet another program that was starting that his spyware wasn't catching. I decided that's it. So I searched and searched and low and behold I found this little gem among all the ugly rocks. I didn't want a registry optimizer, registry first aid, or a new registry editor. I wanted exactly what this was, a startup editor and for free. I don't want to pay for something that does a simple task. That and most of my friends won't bother with shareware if it has nags. this thing checks pretty much every spot that houses startup programs and gives you a description of those programs. such as what the heck is? FSScrCtl.exe , well according to this program its a screen saver control applet, made by stardust screen saver toolkit 2.1 from stardust software. sweeeeet. download it and add it to your arsenal. Spyware detector, antivirus, firewall, oh and startup editor (cha-ching). |
