The Access Workbench is a program that will help you manage your Access databases. The workbench will allow you to see the users/computers using your database, lock out new users so that you can do maintenance, view who is in your workgroup files and your LDB files.
For developers and adminstrators, the software supports password protected databases and allows you to test the security in your databases. For those multi version developers, the software will open the correct version of Access. The latest version makes managing multiple workgroup files easier, allows you to view users in secure databases. The softwore avoids the storing of workgroup passwords in shortcut files by saving passwords in encrypted format.
The software will show you the computer name of all connections to a database, their Access user name and warnings if they have somehow avoided the locking database or if their session ended abruptly (see Figure 1). This software is very handy if you need to shutdown, compact or repair a database. New features in this release include locking users out of databases so that you can shutdown in an orderly fashion and if you associate the LDF file type with workbench.exe, you will be able to open and view the users in your LDB file through windows explorer. You can also look at who is using MDE files and even MDW workgroup files.
