Arcade Lines
I rarely play arcade games. Oh, it's not that I don't like them; it's just that I rarely master them. I just can't seem to find the time to master all the various key combinations and more often than not they leave me all hyped up rather than relaxed. So I pretty much stick with FreeCell (the three deck version in SolSuite 2002 is a killer) and avoid the frustration of being blown up.
Arcade Lines has replaced FreeCell as my spare time amusement. It's really very simple yet incredibly elegant. There are a number of solid colored balls and the object is to line up five in a row, either up, down or on the diagonal. There are wildcards, some balls can be used for any color, some either white/blue or red/orange and then there's the dynamite. Use it in place of a ball and all balls of that color are blown away.

The catch? Balls continue to come, placed randomly on the board. Just when you think you're ready to have five lined up, whack, a new piece is inserted just where you don't want it.
You receive a score each time you remove pieces and while I've compared my scores that's not the point, it's just fun and relaxing. The graphics are great, the balls give off a clever animated gleam and the sound effects are fun, especially when the dynamite goes off. There's no time limit, you can study the board for hours or answer email with no penalty or even quit the game and pick it up where you left off.
Even if you don't consider yourself a gamer or even if you do this guy is worth checking out, tons of fun. --Don Watkins
