Sometimes my own assumptions amaze even me. I know about other Lincoln Beach Software products and they're great, but for some reason I had it in my lizard brain that Black Hole Organizer was just another PIM. I didn't think I needed much more; I have Outlook to manage my modest needs so I'd neglected to look at it.

But when a program wins the People's Choice award I figured that I was missing out on something and should take a look.

What a surprise! It's not a PIM; it's truly a complete organizer for your stuff. If "portal" wasn't a bad word in the Internet space these days I'd call it a personal info portal for your computer. First there's document management. I have terrible document management habits, I guess I could create more folders in Windows, but for whatever reason I get lazy with document management and my various documents, both business, personal and even my html all tend to end up in My Documents. I was impressed that I was able to directly import my Word documents and once there I was able to easily create sub-folders, edit, format, insert boilerplate, drag and drop from my browser. There's even a spell check and thesaurus and the ability to email the document directly from Black Hole.

No way will this screen shot do it justice, you have to try it, but here's a hint.

Tell the document manager to appear as a floating icon on your desktop and then just drag and drop to add items to your database. A reminder system keeps track of tasks or documents and you can even use it as a book catalog or an address book (templates for both are included). I'm still trying to figure out how to get my Outlook address book imported, it wasn't immediately obvious how to do that, but even if I had to retype it it'll be worth it. Definitely worth checking out. - Don Watkins
